Package claim hits TFF below belt

THE Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) yesterday came rushing to deny claims, which spread on social media, accusing the federation’s key members of receiving mega allowances.

On Wednesday, reports on a huge cash scandal engulfing the TFF officials spread like a bushfire. The federation’s Executive Committee was fingered in a damaging financial malfeasance in which, it was claimed that it apportioned close to 440m/- annually for allowances to key members.

The information on social media alleged that the federation’s President Wallace Karia and Vice- President Michael Wambura were receiving allowances amounting to 6m/- and 5m/- respectively per month, while members of the body’s executive committee were getting 1m/- each.

It was further alleged that the committee which met at Sea Scape Kunduchi Beach in Dar es Salaam on October 28th, also approved the increase of seating allowance to each member up to 500,000/- from 300,000/-.

However, addressing members of the media at the federation’s headquarters located at Karume in Dar es Salaam yesterday, TFF Acting General Secretary Wilfred Kidao said the alleged claims were false and those who distributed the unfounded information will be dealt with accordingly.

“Ever since the new administration took helm of the federation, we have been trying to re-brand its image which was in bad shape,” he said.

“It is disgusting to learn that few individuals who have their own interests would like to tarnish the image of TFF whose priority is to develop football standards in the country,” Kidao said.

Adding, he said, the previous allowances which members of TFF used to receive during the past administration have never been changed. “The president (Wallace Karia) directed that any amount of money which the federation gets should be directed towards different football development projects countrywide,” he said.

Furthermore, Kidao said it was impossible for Karia and his deputy to receive such big allowances, while the federation itself has a lot of debts to pay. He said the country’s football body is ready to be corrected when things go wrong for the benefit of furthering football in the country.

Kidao went further to say they have got names and numbers for those who were involved in distributing such false information, hence directed the Law Department of the federation to open charges against them.

“Very shortly, we will be summoning them here at TFF to explain the root of the unfounded information so that cyber crime law takes its course and deter the would be culprits,” he said.

He also urged members of media to always cross-check sources of information before feeding the public to avoid misleading them.
