Tarime police intensifies security

POLICE in Tarime/Rorya Special Zone have beefed up security along Tanzania-Kenya border to quell crimes and check the movement of people crossing into the country, illegally.

The law enforcers have particularly intensified security as the neighbouring Kenya awaits completion of elections. The joint police operations in the zonal headquarters have brought together officers from the two districts, with a view of creating a standby mood amongst the law enforcers just in case violence erupts in the neighbouring country.

Zonal Police Commander Henry Mwaibambe said the exercise is part of the force’s monthly strategy to guarantee security and safety of wananchi, especially in the region with a porous border, to check cross-border criminals, including illegal immigrants.

“This time around the migration of Kenyans into our border centres has declined as compared to the first elections last August, when we witnessed a lot of people crossing over,” he said.

Commander Mwaibambe said there was no cause of security alarm as long as the residents on both parts of the border are moving in accordance with immigration laws and regulations.

He asked the law abiding citizens to give information to the police on any suspected criminal deal. The operation coincided with the environmental conservation, with the RPC leading police officers to clean the District hospital as well as providing essential needs like soaps, toothpaste and snacks to patients.

“Besides providing security to the citizens and their properties, we also have a noble duty to nurture good relations with institutions and social groups to create awareness and encourage ordinary wananchi to voluntarily obey the law and build a sense of community policing,” said the RPC.

The hospital’s Secretary Emiliana Kyondo thanked the police force for their kind gesture to clean the hospital environment and provide patients with essential items, urging other health stakeholders to emulate the police.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the Tarime/Rorya police for their tireless efforts to allow us execute hygiene and extent humble hospitality to our patients especially this time that our resources are too limited to cater for the expansive needs,” said the secretary.
