MAJIBORA Rally team crew, Harrinder Deere wrote a new chapter in his rallying career after winning the sixth round of this year’s National Rally Championship in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
It was his first time to claim all 25 points awarded to the overall winner. Deere, one of the fastest advanced drivers managed to beat a stiff challenge from experienced drivers; Gerald Miller and Jamil Khan on his way to maiden victory.
“It was a tough race to the podium, I thank my navigator Moses Matovu who kept me pushing hard from a start to the flying finish,” said Deere at Mwongozo Estate in Kigamboni where most speeding actions took place yesterday.
Deere won the rally after clocking 1 hour, 17 minutes and 49 seconds, the fastest time recorded in the event. “It will remain the sweetest victory in career. It came from hard work and at times of stressful, but the service crew did a fantastic job,” added the winners. Jamil Khan who bounced back after missing three rounds, came strongly this time to finish second after spending 1 hour, 19 minutes and 45 seconds.
He was navigated by Zubeir Peredina in Mitsubishi Evo 10. The season’s Round Six opener was dominated by Dar es Salaam drivers as the region claimed the top two positions leaving the third position to Miller who was navigated by Peter Fox.
Miller spent 1:20:23 ahead of Arusha team mate, Gurpal Sandhu who claimed the fourth position in Mitsubishi Evo X. Eleven cars managed to finish the rally out of eighteen that attended a flag off in Kigamboni yesterday.
The notable drivers who were forced to withdraw include Dharam Pandya, Guljit Dhani, Arif Haji and Salim, all due to engine problems. Also failed to make it was veteran driver Samir Nahdi Shanto from Morogoro.
Fifth overall was Rajpar Dhani from Kilimanjaro who clocked 1:21: 22 to finish ahead Nadeem Daudi from Dar es Salaam who spent 1:23:42 en-route. Debutant Hassan Ramzan was seventh overall ahead of Ajminder Singh of Kilimanjaro.
Others who managed to finish the rally were Ismail Mehboob who finished ninth, followed by Altaf Munge at the tenth position ahead of the Hussen Suleiman who was the last at the podium.
