Investors urged to zoom in on Terminal Three

TANZANIAN Airport Authority (TAA) has alerted the public over the up-coming tenders to invest in the near complete Terminal Three at Julius Nyerere International Airport, urging Tanzanians to grab the opportunity.

The TAA Director General, Mr Richard Mayongela said yesterday in Dar es Salaam that apart from locals, the current investors at Terminal Two will also be prioritised as long as they meet the required criteria.

“We look forward to declare the tenders, and relevant authorities are well organised in selecting the perfect ones. The new terminal has enough space for investment, be it in hotel, lounge, restaurant and bureau-de-change, to mention but a few. In total, 30 per cent of the terminal area is for commercial activities,” he said.

He added that commercial areas at the new terminal building is among TAA’s main source of income, therefore setting proper environment was the Authority’s priority.

The idea of announcing the tenders came after the Minister for Works, Transport and Communications, Prof Makame Mbarawa confirmed that the terminal’s construction activities was at 67 per cent, which was good progress, and will start operations in September next year as scheduled.

The Minister reiterated that upon completion, the terminal will be able to serve about 8 million passengers a year, accommodating over 30 planes (21 small and 11 big ones) at once. He appreciated the contractor’s job, saying the government will continue issuing all payments in time to make things smooth for the contractor.

Netherland Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Jeroen Verheul said that the contractor will accomplish the work in time using international standards as per agreement. “We all know that Bam contactor originates from Netherlands and always performs very well.

The same contractor is also undertaking the project at Kilimajaro International Airport. We promise to do the finest job since our aim is to support Tanzania to move towards middle economy. We do not fund the projects but provide expertise and engineering,” he said.
