.Dar Gymkhana launches kids play field

THE government has called upon individual, institutions and companies to come forward and build kids play grounds to develop their career and make better society.

Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Harrison Mwakyembe made the remarks while officially opening Children’s Park at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) yesterday.

He said that country and especially Dar es Salaam city was suffering from acute shortage of children’s playing grounds and this, he said, is unhealthy trend that should be addressed.

He thanked the club and sponsors for coming up with the project, saying the park was going to be of big help in developing children’s sporting career. Speaking on behalf of the (DGC), Chairman Walter Chipeta, the club’s honorary Secretary, Khalaf Rashidi, thanked the minister and lauded Chairman of Kamal Group of Company, Gagan Gupta, for his generous support.

He said: “The Management Committee and members of DGC extend our appreciation to Kamal Group for their generous support in developing and maintenance of the kids’ playing ground by supplying equipments.

“These improvements at the club kids’ park will benefit children, families and our entire community,” he said, adding that every time they improve the facilities, it makes the club a better place where families can relax.

Chipeta also thanked other sponsors including SBC Tanzania Limited for their continuous support and contribution to Club Junior Initiative. “We extend our invitation to other potential sponsor to come on board to support the development of sports initiatives at the club,” he said.

On his side, Gupta said: “As an organisation, members of Kamal Steel have been enjoying this magnificent facility. It has been a place for recreation and sports for many of our friends, colleagues and their families for many years.

“Our target is to ensure the park will continue to serve the needs for generation to come and it is our sincere hope that others will follow our example and lend their support,” said Gupta.
