TANZANIA Mainland League’s defending champions, Young Africans have refuted reports that their Zambian tactician, George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina was planning to rejoin his former club Zesco United FC. The Dar es Salaam Jangwani street based club has rebutted circulating reports that Lwandamina who dumped Zesco last year to join the Tanzanian club is engaged in process to return to his former Zambian club.
The source from the club denied the report that Lwandamina has quit saying their head coach has been allowed by the club to go back home to attend some family matters.
The source said the club was aware of his absence because his trip home is officially reported. “Coach Lwandamina went back to Zambia to attend funeral of one of his relatives and he will be back early next week to continue with his duties,” said the source.
According to the source Lwandamina is still with the club and he doesn’t know the source of rumours connecting the coach with his former club. The Zambian tactician left the team under Assistant Coach Shadrack Nsajigwa and went back to his native country to attend the family matter as the league is current on a short break to cater for Fifa calendar games.
Lwandamina who suddenly left Zesco United last November to take charge of Yanga by signing a two year deal with the club, is tasked to ensure the team defends the league title for the fourth consecutive season.
The Zambian took charge of the team from a Dutchman, Hans van der Pluijm who had served the club successfully, but surprisingly the club decided to part ways with him. The Dutchman is currently leading the newly promoted Singida United and the team has already proved to be a hard nut to crack in the league.
Yanga are currently third with 17 points on the league table, they are behind their traditional rivals Simba and Azam FC who have tied on 19 points from nine games. Simba, however, are placed at the top of table due to superior goal difference.
The league resumes next weekend with Yanga scheduled to host Mbeya City at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam in a match expected to be difficult for both sides.
The defending champions will be looking to regain their winning formula whereas the opponents, who lost their previous game to Simba at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya will be looking to claim vital points in the away venue. Simba will be away in Mbeya to face Tanzania Prisons and Azam FC will also be away in Njombe to battle against Njombe Mji at the Saba Saba ground.
