Ninje confident in Kilimanjaro Stars’ Challenge Cup prospects

MAINLAND soccer team, Kilimanjaro Stars’ newly appointed Head Coach, Ammy Ninje, is confident that the squad he will pick today will excel in the 2017 Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya.

Ninje, who is an assistant to national soccer team, Taifa Stars Head Coach, Salum Mayanga, was officially unveiled yesterday as Kilimanjaro Stars coach. The United Kingdom based coach is due to pick his squad today, ahead of the tournament organised by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA), set to kick off on December 3 to 17 in Kenya.

“Our main aim is to win the CECAFA tournament and bring it back home. We are ready to compete and fight for the glory,” said Ninje. Ninje is an experienced coach, with UEFA ‘A’ coaching licence and is currently Academy Lead Development Phase Coach at Notts County Football Club.

His Curriculum Vitae (CV), which was circulated to members of media yesterday by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Media and Communication Officer, Alfred Lucas, indicates that he is the Sports Lecturer at Hull College in UK and has assisted over 90 boys to achieve Academy Contracts with Hull City and Notts County FC.

He also holds UEFA ‘B’ coaching Badge from Hull University-East Riding County FA. Kilimanjaro Stars have been packed in group A dubbed ‘group of death’ alongside Zanzibar, Rwanda’s Amavubi, guest nation Libya ‘The Mediterranean Knights’ and hosts Kenya ‘Harambee Stars’.

“It is a relative fair but tough group basing on the quality of teams we have been drawn against ... certainly, we believe and are confident that our team will perform well in the tournament because we have a good team capable of battling for the title,” said Lucas.

According to the fixture, Kilimanjaro Stars are scheduled to take on Libya in the opener of the event whereas hosts Kenya will face Rwanda in group A on December 3rd. The tournament’s defending champions Uganda Cranes are pooled in group ‘B’ together with Zimbabwe, Burundi, Ethiopia and South Sudan.

Uganda will begin their title defence against Zimbabwe. Meanwhile, Isles’ Zanzibar Heroes squad will enter camp at the Amaan Stadium today, ready for the continent’s oldest tournament, Reports Mwajuma Juma from Zanzibar.

This was confirmed by Team Manager, Abdulwahab Haji Day ‘Maalim Dau’ shortly after receiving 5m/- from Mpendae Member of Parliament (MP), Salim Turkey. Maalim Dau said the team need 80m/- for smooth preparations and participation in the annual tournament.

“We still need more financial, moral and material support from well-wishers, so that our players will train and compete in the tournament without hitches,” he said.
