THE Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) Cricket Section hosted the Raha Corporate Cricket Bash 2017 on Sunday, where Motison Group emerged victorious.
Runners up spot went to Raha Liquid Telecom, while Dinesh Rabadia was voted player of the Tournament. He was awarded a holiday package to Zanzibar courtesy of Skylink Tanzania. The tournament attracted five teams -- Motison Group, Raha Liquid Telecom, Insignia Paint, Exim Bank and Afro Turk.
It was sponsored by Raha Liquid Telecom while co-sponsors were Nabaki Africa, Serengeti Breweries, Insignia Limited, Asar Tanzania (Makita), Sayona Drinks and Skylink Tanzania. DGC Cricket Section Captain, Ashish Nagewadia described the event as a success, saying the plan is to make it an annual event.
He also appreciated Raha Liquid Telecom for the support. He said that “This event will become an annual event and we look forward to having more teams involved in next year’s edition. We sincerely appreciate the British High Commissioner to Tanzania, Sarah Cooke, who was the chief guest at the event.
“Our signature tournament is the Gymkhana Shield, which is hosted every year, the Juniors Elite Shield and now the Corporate Cricket Bash. Cooke appreciated and congratulated all the sponsors, participating teams and the DG Cricket Section is supporting and developing cricket in Tanzania.
The CEO of Raha Liquid Telecom, Aashiq Shariff, said they feel privileged to sponsor the event as it goes in line with their business of connecting people. “Businesses and sports always help in connecting the community,” he said.
This was the first ever corporate cricket tournament held by DGC Cricket Section, thus confirming that the section is always leading by example towards development of cricket in Tanzania through hosting various events throughought the year.
