Mayanja severs Simba ties


AMID rumours that Simba intend to part ways with their Head Coach, Joseph Omog, worry and anxiety erupted yesterday when the Assistant Jackson Mayanja reportedly severed ties with the club. His controversial departure comes as the club enjoy the pilot seat and seem tailor made for the Premier league title this season.


It was startling to see the Ugandan tactician making a sudden decision putting into consideration a wonderful job he had done to the success hungry club.

Mayanja was reached for the confirmation, he admitted he had tendered resignation and he was going home to attend family matters, which, however, he was not ready to describe.

Mayanja, who helped Simba claim major title; Azam Federation Cup and Community Shield, left just nine days before the eagerly awaited Dar es Salaam derby to be staged on October 28 at the Uhuru Stadium. Mayanja disclosed in short through WhatsApp message that his decision to part ways with the club was personal.

But he said it is personal because it is strictly family matter and rubbished speculation that there are forces from inside or outside the club involved in his sudden resignation. The Ugandan did not want to go into details on his shocking decision to part ways with the club, the move that also shocked the club’s management.

Mayanja, however, thanked Simba leadership for allowing him to go back to his native country Uganda to attend his family matters.

The club Information and Communication Officer, Haji Manara also confirmed the resignation of the Ugandan tactician saying the club has accepted his resignation and allowed him to return home to solve his family matters and wished him all the best.

Confirming the report through his Instagram page yesterday, Manara said after parting ways with Mayanja, the club is expected to name Omog’s assistant in few days to come.

Manara urged the club supporters to remain calm and requested them to cooperate with the new assistant coach who will be named soon. However, Mayanja decision has created anxiety among the fans and supporters, most sensing there is something fishy burning up in the club.

The club’s Information and Communications Officer Haji Manara has been quoted several times as refuting reports that the club intends disbanding the whole technical bench due to what is said to be unsatisfactory performance of the team despite boasting of many high-talented and expensive players.

Mayanja alias ‘Mia Mia’ working under the Cameroonian Omog managed to assist the team to grab the ticket to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup after being out of the major continental tournament for about four seasons.

Simba currently lead the Vodacom Premier League (VPL) title race with 12 points despite tying on points with its competitors Mtibwa Sugar, Young Africans and Azam FC, superior goal average helped Simba claim the driver’s seat. Mayanja began coaching career in 2002 with URA FC/ L y - antonde and guided them to play in the Ugandan Super League.

He had also coaching stints with Bunamwaya SC, KCC FC, Uganda Cranes, Kagera FC, Coastal Union and later joined Simba Mayanja joined Simba after parting ways with now relegated Coastal Union. He replaced Selemani Matola early last year and had a two- year contract with the club before the resignation.

Since joining the club to work under Omog wing, Simba have played 67 games, winning 46, drawing 10 and losing eight games.
