Kehlani is declaring her love for Cardi B.
Speaking with Beats 1, the R&B songstress gushed about the “Bodak Yellow” rapper’s ascent. “You can’t not root for somebody who is 100 percent themselves,” she said. “Everybody fell in love with her. I feel like I’m rooting for the big sister that I never had. This is the girl that made it in front of us.”
The SweetSexySavage singer, who recently released “Touch” and “Honey,” went on to say that Bardi has been able to convert her haters with success. “Nobody can deny it anymore,” she said. “Every hater, I’m sure, that has ever hated on Cardi B, knows all the words to ‘Bodak Yellow.’ That’s guaranteed. Nobody can shake that. I’m the biggest Cardi B fan.”
When Beats 1 host Zane Lowe suggested that Cardi B and Kehlani could be the “new Throne,” a reference to JAY-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne, Lani Tsunami was all in. “Cardi B, if you’re listening, I’m here for it,” she said. “I’m down. Let’s do it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Kehlani said that she is trying to make her music and activism coincide with a new app that she will roll out soon. Denouncing Donald Trump as a “ridiculous president,” she also revealed that her new passion lies in food justice.
“The war on people by food, food companies, and the pharmaceutical companies is still very much existent,” she said. “I just want to help young people learn how to free themselves.”
