Arusha RC denies eyeing parliamentary seat

Arusha. Regional Commissioner Mrisho Gambo has refuted widespread reports that he is planning to vie for the Arusha Member of Parliament Seat in the 2020 general election.

Mr Gambo revealed this during a press conference held in Arusha on Saturday October 14. He said that he was now concentrating on assisting President John Magufuli to address challenges facing people in the region he leads.

He termed the reports as “mere rumours” spread by legislators who have failed to serve the people according to their election pledges, and that, they have opted to throw their blames on him.

“What I’m doing is to involve my assistants and district commissioners   to address challenges facing the people, we don’t do politics, let them walk with flash discs,” he said.

He claimed that most of the MPs are not staying at their constituencies and they have failed to meet the expectations of their voters, as a result, their duties are being covered by government leaders.

Mr Gambo also downplayed allegations of corruption raised by Arumeru East and Arusha Urban MPs Joshua Nassari and Godbless Lema which implicated government officials who are said to have bribe former Chadema councillors to join the ruling party CCM.

According to him, the councillors resigned their posts after being satisfied with the work done by president Magufuli on the implementation of his election pledges.

“There are councillors who quit in Arusha, Monduli, Ngorongoro, Arumeru, Hai, Iringa. All these impressed by how the fifth government is operating,” he said.

Earlier, the Arusha District Commissioner Mr Gabriel Daqarro said they have managed to improve social services on education, health, electricity and water services.

He went on to ask residents in Arusha to show up in the registration of National Identifications.
