‘TGU needs support to host Sunshine Tour’

SOUTH African professional golfer, Ryan Cairns has called upon serious sponsors to come forward and support the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) and Kili Golf and Wildlife Resort, Usa River, Arusha to hosts Sunshine Golf Tour.

The new course is bracing to bring to Tanzania one of the African famous professional golf competition ‘Sunshine Tour’ in July, next year. Cairns, who won this year’s Tanzania Open Golf Championship professional title in Arusha, last month, said that the first Sunshine Tour event to Tanzania will be televised live by SuperSport and it is an ideal place to promote the sport.

The Zimbabwe based golfer said in order to make dream come true next July, sponsors have to join hand with TGU and Kili Golf Course to stage the event. Cairns said: “It is going to be a wonderful experience, but the country need sponsors to make it possible.”

He added that it was his first competition in Tanzania, but he has seen lots of potential and would like to come back next year with more competitive environment. “Hospitality is unbelievable, the course is in great shape, capable of hosting any of best tournament in Africa, it would be very nice to play Sunshine Tour here,” he said.

Cairns who hit 73,73,73,72(291) at the 72 holes three day competition said he is ready to work hand to hand with organisers to stage a successful event next year. He remained optimistic that many top golfers from Zimbabwe, South Africa and other parts of the world would like to come to Arusha for the competition.

The tournament that was graced by Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Harrison Mwakyembe, saw Kenyans David Wakhu (75, 73, 72 and 75) and Dismas Indiza (72, 79, 71 and 73) tied at second with aggregate 295 each.

Hosts best results came from Jimmy Mollel, who finished at the ninth position after he carded 73,82,75,79 (309).
