Equity market turnover up slightly

DAR ES SALAAM Stock Exchange (DSE) turnover increased slightly to 1.57bn/- last week representing 54 per cent change from 1.01bn/- of the preceding period with three equities dominating the market.

According to Zan Securities Limited weekly wrap up, the three equities were the Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) at 88 per cent, Tanzania Portland cement Company (Twiga) at 4 per cent and CRDB Bank at 3 per cent of the market share.

During the period under review, there were no top gainers in regards to price appreciation but top loser for the week was Twiga after depreciating in value by 3.95 per cent to 1,460/- per share.

Total market capitalisation increased by 1.22 per cent, closing the week at 20.60tri/- while domestic market capitalisation decreased by 0.11 per cent, ending the week under review at 10.04tri/-.

Comparatively, key benchmark indices were in the green and red territory with the Tanzania Share Index (TSI) capping at 3,830.17 points, which is 0.11 per cent lower than the previous week.

The All Share Index (DSEI) closed at 2,156.01 points, which is 2.03 per cent higher than the preceding period. Similarly, the three sector indices were in the green and red territory to close off this week.


Industrial and Allied Index closed at 5,319.58 points, down by 0.18 per cent. . Banks, Finance and Investment Index and the Commercial Services Sector Index closed the same as last week at 2,428.47 points and 2,462.24 points, respectively.
